چکیده

The effects of adding AB diblock copolymers to A/B binary blends on the structure and thermodynamics of critical nuclei are studied using the self-consistent field theory. At a fixed ratio of the amount of the two homopolymers, depending on the degree of polymerization and composition of the diblocks, their addition to the blends can either increase or decrease the nucleation free energy barrier relative to the pure A/B blends. The qualitative trend can be deduced from the shift in the coexistence boundary and the spinodal. The distribution of diblock copolymers in critical nuclei depends on the composition of the diblocks and the quench depth. Near the coexistence, symmetric diblocks exhibit surfactant behavior, being highly concentrated on the interface of the critical nuclei. Near the spinodal, they act more like co-solvent with a relatively uniform distribution. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1566941#

Morphology and Mechanical Properties Investigation of Binary Polymer Blends Based on PP/SEBS and PP/PC

In this study, eight binary blends of polypropylene (PP)/ poly [styrene-b-(ethylene-co butylene)-b-styrene] tri-block copolymer (SEBS) and polypropylene (PP)/ polycarbonate (PC) were produced at different composition through twin screw extruder. The composition of the minor phases was changed to correlate the morphology and mechanical properties of binary blends (PP/PC and PP/SEBS) through ther...

Role of covalent bond formation in morphology and properties of PP/PP-g-PS binary blends

PP-g-PS copolymer is a typical compatilizer used in polypropylene and polystyrene immiscible blends. PP-g-PS copolymers with different side chain lengths were synthesized, and their thermal and mechanical properties were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarizing optical microscopy (POM) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), respectively. The DSC and POM results show ...

Density Functional Theory for Block Copolymer Melts and Blends

We derive an expression for the free energy of the blends of block copolymers expressed as a functional of the density distribution of the monomer of each block. The expression is a generalization of the Flory-Huggins-de Gennes theory for homo polymer blends, and also a generalization of the Ohta-Kawasaki theory for the melts of diblock copolymers. The expression can be used for any blends of h...

Compatibilization of polycarbonate/poly (ethylene terephthalate) blends by addition of their transesterification product

In this study, poly carbonate (PC) and poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) were reactive melt-blended under two different conditions to produce PC/PET copolymers. For each condition, samples were taken at specified mixing times representative a specific structure of copolymers and each one employed to physically compatibilize a PC/PET blend with a fixed composition. Reactive blending and copoly...

Well-defined PE-b-PTFE diblock copolymers via combination of coordination chain transfer polymerization and condensation reaction: Facile preparation and surface modification of polyethylene film

In this paper, a series of well-defined polyethylene-b-polytetrafluoroethylene diblock copolymers (PE–b– PTFEs) were prepared by a coupling reaction of hydroxyl-terminated polyethylene (PE–OH) and isocyanateterminated 1H,1H-perfluoro-1-tetradecanol (PFDO–NCO). PE–OH was prepared by the coordination chain transfer polymerization using 2,6-bis[1-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imino ethyl] pyridine iron (...
